We use ceremony that is rooted in tradition (people have celebrated their marriages in our churches for over 1000 years), yet which can be tailored to include modern music and readings to make an occasion special for you. God gave us the gift of marriage in creation and the coming together of a man and a woman in God’s house brings a depth and particular blessing to your union which we encourage everyone to explore.
Please take a moment to look at the Church of England website: www.yourchurchwedding.org. Here you can see some of the options for the wedding service, click on the links to listen to wedding music and hymns and to get ideas for your special day.
To be married in a particular parish church one of you, or your parents or grandparents, should at some stage have have lived here permanently for at least 6 months. Alternatively, you can marry in one of our churches if you are a regular worshiping member of the congregation (at least once a month for six months). You do not need to be baptised to be married here, although we would hope that as you discover more about the Christian faith you would consider baptism.
